A PhD in textiles from the University of Manchester, UK, and former Group Chief Executive (Textiles) of Arvind Mills based in Ahmedabad, India, Dr. Roy brings over 5 decades of rich experience in industry, research, and teaching.
Dr. Roy has been awarded the 2016 Gold Medal of Society of Dyers & Colourists, UK (Incorporated by Royal Charter) for his prolonged and distinguished service to the Textile Industry in India. He is revered as the “Father of Denim in India” by the American Press. He was instrumental in identifying and setting up Arvind’s future businesses such as high-value shirtings, bottom weights (khakis), and knits, which have become strategic business units for the company today.
In close association with McKinsey USA, he took up the challenge of formulating, negotiating, and finalizing various strategic alliances with leading American and European Textile Companies. Dr. Roy, as a Management Consultant (Textiles), is currently advising various Textile Mills to shape up their future directions extending technical and managerial support. He also spearheaded the major development on Indigo Wool & Silk at Malwa Industries, Ludhiana, that was subsequently patented by Malwa Industries.

- Expert member, Subgroup – Yarns and fabrics – IXth Five-year plan (Ministry of Textiles)

- Expert Member, Evaluation Committee to formulate Textile Policy, Govt. of Gujarat
- Worked as an expert member for planning commission to evaluate the working of Textile Research Associations
